2011 Recruiting: 5 QB’s to watch
#1 Christian LeMay 6′3 187 Matthews, NC
The son of the former UF team chaplin, Christian grew up on Gator football and one has to believe that the Gators may be in front to land this top rated QB. Christian will make his college choice in July.
#2 Braxton Miller 6′3 199 Huber Heights, OH
Braxton is a dual threat QB from Ohio who would fit the UF system perfectly but with him being in buckeye country it will be a tough pull even though Terrell Pryor has shown that a dual threat QB does not gel well in the Ohio State system.
#3 Jeff Driskel 6′4 225 Oviedo, FL
Jeff is being compared to a baby Tim Tebow in that he is in big stature and is known for using his power run skills to run over defenders. His passing skills may be lacking but Jeff would be a great candidate as a guy you could redshirt and really have the capabilities to take over a team by his Sophomore year.
#4 Teddy Bridgewater 6′3 180 Miami, FL
Teddy is in the heart of Hurricane country and attends a school known for being a pipeline to the University of Miami but over the past year some things have happened that may have tarnished that relationship and there may be a slim chance that the door is opening for the Florida Gators. Teddy may still be a long shot but anything can happen and UF is the king of recruiting in the state right now.
#5 Max Wittek 6′3 191 Santa Ana, CA
Max is another dual threat QB from CA and attends the highly acclaimed Mater Dei High School. Max was just offered by the Gators last week and will be visiting the campus this weekend. This may be a kid to keep an eye on for the second spot at the QB position and like Driskel is a kid you can bring in and redshirt right away.
5 more to watch:
Jacoby Brissett 6′4 225 Palm Beach Gardens, FL
Jerrard Randall 6′2 188 Hollywood, FL
C.J Uzomah 6′5 215 Suwannee, GA
Imonni Carswell 6′2 170 Plantation, FL
GatorTom, your comment that Pryor has shown that dual threat QB’s don’t do well in OSU’s system is off base. Pryor has better #’s through 2 seasons as a starter then Vince Young had at Texas. Would you state that dual threat QB’s also don’t do well in Texas’ system? Pryor looked pretty darn good in the Rose Bowl and last time I checked he was wearing an OSU uniform.
I disagree Mike,
Vince Young in his first season as a full time starter at QB had over 1,000 yards passing and 1,087 yards rushing and in his second season as a full time starter he was named to the All-American team and led his team to an undefeated season not to mention passed over 3,000 yards and rushed for over 1,000 once again. Lets also do not forget he led his team to a record of 25-1 over that two year span.
Last time I checked Pryor has done none of those things and for as highly regarded he was coming out of high school and I really do not get where you are getting your stats from because when talking about dual threat QB’s it is just not about passing yards like you want to suggest and Young had a much better first year as a true starter, but you are right that Pryor may have had more passing yards with 2,087 but when it comes to rushing there is really no contest with Pryor only rushing for 794 yards compared to Young’s 1,079 rushing yards.
Pryor also took over as the starter at QB for OSU after the USC game in 2008 and has a record of 19-5.
Please again tell me how Pryor had better stats than Vince Young?
Actually as a true GatorHomer as Tom’s name should be, he, like many Gator fans have a tendency to leave out all of the details (when they are not having discussions with recruits about how god said they should play at Florida.) VY was red-shirted and never took over the reigns as the starter at Texas until midway through his r-Fr season. Pryor started from the 4th game of his TRUE freshman season. What else was left out is of course Pryor’s run statistics would be lower, he had a 1st round pick at RB his freshman year (Beanie Wells) and Ohio St averaged over 225+yds per game over the second half of his So. season. Texas on the other hand had who at RB’s? Rickey Williams? No, he was long gone. They had below average RB’s. I guess if the 2010 season is a repeat of the Rose Bowl, Pryor will continue to not work at Ohio St. Good article GatorHomerTom. well done.
Thank You, I appreciate the comments….
Who would have thought a blog about “GATOR RECRUITING” would have a homer angle to it….Thats just shocking!
by the way feel free to compare this past season with Pryor to Young’s first year and it still does not add up with Pryor being better and don’t give me this garbage Vince Young had nobody around him because last time I checked Texas had pretty good teams both years and like I said went 25-1 over that span while Pryor was losing 5 games over a lesser period.
I do take it as a great honor that I am now upsetting the Ohio State fanbase and hope you all return to read my blogs in the future.
Good day and GO GATORS!
I disagree with you GatorTom about #2 QB Braxton Miller not being a good candidate for OSU system.
Though I do understand your “gator” thinking. Terrell Pryor ended the year on a good note with The OSU system.
With his Junior year starting, I believe that you will have to take back what you originally said. Troy smith was also a duel QB for OSU. He won the Heisman which I do believe is the Highsest award given to a college football athelete. Having said that I look forward to possibly seeing Braxton take snaps in the “shoe” as The QB of The Ohio State University
BUCKEYEDOC,
I respect that opinion and that is the best thing about a blog is that people can have different opinions and not blast somebody and call them a “homer” because they disagree with you.
Thanks for adding your opinion.
